Crested Butte South is a small community about 8 miles south of Downtown Crested Butte. It serves locals and second homeowners alike.
In 1970, Crested Butte South was platted and became a subdivision. Within Crested Butte South, there are 720 residential and 62 commercial lots for a total of 782. The build out for residential is approximately 49% and commercial stands at 25%; so a lot more building can still occur in this area. Most lot sizes average 1/3 & 1/2 acres and have public water and sewer and natural gas is available in 65% of the subdivision.
Crested Butte South provides many amenities for the community. Some of them are a Fire Station, Restaurants, Garden Center, Coffee Shop, Day Care Center, Public Storage, Hiking and Mountain Biking, Playground, Ice Rink & Warming House and Cross Country Ski Trails. And recently free transportation to Crested Butte,Mt. Crested Butte and Gunnison became available.
